We need people who will put country over party
Do Greenwich’s Republican leaders have the same unwavering commitment to our democratic values as their colleague, John Giles, the conservative Republican Mayor of Mesa, AZ?
On July 29, Mayor Giles unequivocally repudiated the candidacy and politics of Donald Trump.

Mayor Giles wrote in part:
Our party used to stand for the belief that every Arizonan, no matter their background or circumstances, should have the freedom, opportunity and security to live out their American Dream.
[But] the Republican Party with Trump at its helm continues down the path of political extremism, away from focusing on our fundamental freedoms.
Now more than ever, we need leaders who will put country over party. I believe my party has a moral and ethical responsibility to restore faith in our democratic institutions. I call on other Arizona Republicans to join me in choosing country over party this election and to vote against Donald Trump.
Less than a week later, the Harris campaign launched “Republicans for Harris,” featuring endorsements from 25 influential GOP voices: former lawmakers, governors and Trump administration officials.
“Speak out and stand with Kamala Harris this November,” said Trump’s former Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham, “to keep integrity in the White House and ensure democracy for our country.”
The question then is, “Where do our Greenwich Republican leaders stand?” Their constituents deserve to know. Is their belief in the foundation of this great nation strong enough to put country over politics, and renounce the toxic and venomous politics of Donald Trump, as Republican Mayor Giles and others did?
So far we have heard nothing
Without evidence otherwise, we have to assume leaders of the Greenwich Republican party serving in all capacities support the Trump candidacy.
We are at a crossroads in American history, a time when Trump has promised Christians that this may be the last time they need to vote; a time when he’s poised to further stack the courts, stripping away more of our constitutional rights and freedoms; a time when he’s ready to replace public servants with sycophants; a time when he’s suggested shooting people at the border. Silence is not an option when democracy itself is on the ballot.
Dems provide a lower cost energy future
Were you also shocked by your electric bill this month? Good news is on the way, thanks to a $389 million federal grant from the Infrastructure Investment Act that President Biden signed to help us build out our electricity infrastructure. The grant will add thousands of megawatts of offshore wind power and other green energy sources. It increases reliability while lowering costs and reducing carbon emissions.
Moreover, another $450 million grant to CT and New England states makes cost-saving geothermal energy more accessible throughout our region. As our communities reel from multiple heat waves, with higher temperatures causing higher bills, access to more affordable cooling equipment is key to helping your wallet and your health.
Ask Fred why rates spiked!
Meantime, state reps Hector Arzeno, Rachel Khanna and Steve Meskers have been pushing for more rate relief. Interestingly, much of the recent spike was due to a 2017 Republican-led bailout of the Millstone nuclear plant, which the previous contingent of Greenwich state reps—all Republicans—voted for. That contingent includes now First Selectman Fred Camillo.
Why are you voting for Democrats this November?
Greenwich neighbors weigh in
“Local Dems fought for state funding to help rebuild our schools. Nationally, Dems invested in our infrastructure and kept the world safe by investing in our international alliances.”
