Democrats take back Congress—and deliver historic victories in Greenwich and Connecticut
Tuesday, the American people spoke. With their votes, Democrats, Republicans, Independents, and the unaffiliated decided enough is enough. We came together to reject the lawlessness, corruption, and chaos of the Trump era. We made clear that Americans will not stand by while a president undermines our democratic institutions, disregards the rule of law, and puts personal interests ahead of the country.
By capturing both the U.S. House and the Senate, Democrats now have the power and the responsibility to exercise the oversight authority the Constitution gives them. They can say no, they can hold people accountable, and they can begin the long and arduous process of restoring our country’s standing in the world.
At its heart, this election was about values and defending the principles on which this country was built. That all people are created equal, that we all have basic human and civil rights and that government exists to protect those rights — not take them away.
Oberlander makes history defeating Kelly for State Senate; Meskers and Arzeno re-elected

In her decisive victory over Republican Joe Kelly, Jill Oberlander returned the 36th State Senate District to Democratic hands for only the second time in nearly a century. This is a remarkable achievement and a testament to Oberlander’s determination, her tireless grassroots campaign and volunteers, and the thousands of voters who believe Greenwich and the district deserve independent, experienced, and principled leadership.
Steve Meskers and Hector Arzeno were also easily reelected, continuing their strong representation of our community in the Connecticut House of Representatives.
We are disappointed that Amiel Goldberg did not prevail in the 149th District. But we are proud of the campaign he ran and the effort he brought. Democrats have won that seat before, and we are determined to compete again and build the support needed to win it back.
We asked the winners why they thought they won and here’s what they told us:
Jill Oberlander Senator-Elect for the 36th District: “Every contact I had with people throughout this campaign had a story behind it. Listening to those stories helped develop and deepen relationships, which I think played a big part.”

Steve Meskers, State Representative for the 150th District:“I think it’s all about service and consistency and delivering to everyone in the community. Representing the interests of Greenwich in Hartford and delivering services on a daily basis.”
Hector Arzeno, State Representative for the 151st District:“The Democrats are very unified, we have great leadership, we all work together, we are a team and we delivered results.”

Governor Lamont wins a historic third term
We also celebrate Governor Ned Lamont’s landslide victory over Republican Ryan Fazio. We believe the governor more than earned his victory considering his 8 balanced budgets in a row, paying down the state’s pension debt, and, significantly, our increased credit ratings by entities including Moody’s, Fitch, and S&P. We look forward to his — and Lieutenant Governor Susan Bysiewicz’s — continued leadership.

Along with the governor, our entire Democratic slate of constitutional officers handily won, including Attorney General William Tong, Secretary of the State Stephanie Thomas, Comptroller Sean Scanlon and Treasurer Erick Russell.
Congressman Himes will chair Intelligence Committee
Our U.S. House representative, Jim Himes, cruised to victory over Michael Goldstein. Himes will chair the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, a powerful role that will enable him to oversee our many foreign intelligence agencies including the CIA, FBI and NSA and hold accountable officials like FBI Director Kash Patel. With Himes at the helm, our country could not be in better hands.
A powerful local, state, and national team to represent us
With this incredible team in place, we are very optimistic about Connecticut’s future. This was a victory for democracy, for accountability, and for the belief that government can and must work for the people. We have a great deal of work ahead of us, but yesterday showed what is possible when people come together, get involved, and refuse to give up.
Thank you to everyone who volunteered, knocked on doors, made calls, contributed, and voted.
This victory belongs to you!
