More tales from the campaign trail

Jill has spent years doing the practical, necessary work to make a municipality run efficiently: understanding budgets, asking tough questions, working through disagreements, and making decisions that she believes will improve the lives of those around her. JoAnna Foyle

Recently, my neighbors and I had a question about a state regulation affecting our street. I happened to see Steve at a local event and explained the issue to him. The very next morning he arrived at our house to see the situation first hand and better understand if and how he might be able to help. Bill Herz, Riverside

Stuck in traffic, Hector Arzeno stepped in.

A few months ago, I was stuck at an intersection in town where traffic locked up and no cars were moving. Out of nowhere, a man with a smile calmly appeared and started waving cars through until it cleared. It was Hector. He saw people stuck and he helped, which is how he does the job in Hartford, too. Kevin Driscoll, Cos Cob

It was not until middle school that a teacher said, “I think Amiel is dyslexic and he needs to learn a different way.” That’s when I learned one person can make a difference in a person’s life. This was in the 1970s. Special education was not a thing in the 70s.

Special education and special needs are important to me. The reason I’m a problem solver is because the first big problem I had to solve was figuring out how to read. Amiel Goldberg, Stamford
