The recent budget craziness shows Greenwich deserves better, and Democrats can get it done.
For a century, Greenwich has been governed by a nearly unbroken Republican grip on power. That kind of political monopoly breeds something dangerous: complacency. In Greenwich, coasting has replaced innovation. Cronyism has overtaken merit. And while the world charges forward into the 21st century, too often our town has stood still.
Each municipal election, the old Republican playbook resurfaces: fear mongering about high-rises and taxes. But these scare tactics ring increasingly hollow. Greenwich residents know better. We know our town can be more responsive, more modern, and more forward-looking without sacrificing what makes it special.

A clear vision for an even better Greenwich
Imagine a town…
- That treats public education not as a “cost center,” but as an investment in our children and our future
- Where you can enjoy a meal downtown without spending a half hour looking for parking
- Where taking your child or your dog for a walk doesn’t mean playing Frogger with speeding cars
- Where renewing your dog license or accessing your beach permit can be done from your phone
- Where critical infrastructure, like our aging ice rink or flood-prone sewer systems, are addressed, not delayed into obsolescence
…all while preserving our historically low property tax rates.
Responsible planning and stewardship
The idea that Greenwich must choose between fiscal responsibility and the common good is a false choice. Democrats understand how to use smart governance—data analytics, technology, and modern financial tools—to deliver more for less. We believe residents deserve a town government that is as efficient as the private sector. That means embracing 21st-century systems, welcoming new ideas, and prioritizing long term planning.
Greenwich deserves more than maintenance mode. We deserve momentum. It’s time for new leadership with vision, energy, and accountability. This November, let’s stop settling for “good enough.” Let’s vote for a Greenwich that works for everyone.

Trump Destroys. Connecticut Builds.
In just 100 days, Connecticut Democrats have shown what responsive, forward-looking leadership can accomplish. The contrast with the Trump administration couldn’t be more stark. While Democrats in our state are building, protecting, and investing, Trump and his allies are dismantling rights and freedoms and costing us more. A scorecard:
Your healthcare: Trump’s budget cuts Medicare and Social Security. Connecticut Democrats are fighting to lower prescription drug costs and protect senior healthcare.
Your drinking water: As Trump’s EPA weakens limits on toxic “forever chemicals,” Connecticut passed laws to restrict them from consumer products and monitor drinking water for contamination.
Your children’s education: As federal funding for public schools is slashed in favor of private school vouchers, Connecticut is investing in universal pre-K, with $300 million proposed to expand early childhood education.
Your reproductive freedom: While Trump allies push for a national abortion ban, Connecticut expanded protections through the Reproductive Freedom Defense Act, and passed new legislation to improve young people’s access to care.
Our climate: As Trump hands favors to Big Oil and abandons clean energy programs, Connecticut Democrats are committing to 100% carbon-free electricity by 2040, prioritizing wind and solar.
Protection from gun violence: While Trump eliminates the White House office of gun violence prevention, Connecticut continues to uphold some of the toughest firearm regulations in the country.
Your voting rights: While Republican states restrict access to the ballot, Connecticut voters approved a constitutional amendment allowing no-excuse absentee voting.
Workers rights: As Trump’s administration undercuts labor protections, Connecticut raised the minimum wage and expanded paid family and medical leave.
What we’re reading
Republican finance board chaos continues
After unilaterally cutting Greenwich Public Schools by over $4 million, Republicans on the finance board (the Board of Estimate and Taxation) have taken to the media to defend their actions.
Recently Doug Fenton, a representative on the town legislature, and member of its Budget Overview Committee carefully documented their evolving excuses for upending the lives of students, parents and teachers. Among his insights: often the GOP BET members didn’t attend their own meetings.
“It’s not surprising that their choice of words to justify the size of their reduction was that it ‘felt appropriate’”, Fenton writes. “In what should be a rigorous and data-driven process focused on outcomes and cost/benefit, we should hope that decisions rely on more than ‘the feels.’”
Now a trio of BET Republicans are shamelessly claiming they didn’t want the cuts they voted for, and are gaslighting whoever will listen that somehow they’re not the bad guys. Don’t buy their snake oil. Look at their votes.
