Currently, to vote by absentee ballot in our state, a voter must have an approved “excuse” to do so. Our restrictions on absentee voting are outdated – 36 other states do not require a specific reason to vote absentee, including New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island.
This November, voters will find a question on their ballot: “Shall the Constitution of the State be amended to permit the General Assembly to allow each voter to vote by absentee ballot?” We encourage you to vote YES.
If the ballot question passes, the Connecticut Legislature will be permitted to allow absentee voting for all registered voters – no excuse necessary. This change will make voting easier and more accessible for everyone, ensuring that all eligible voters can participate.
