Formidable slate includes three proven incumbents — Rachel Khanna, Stephen Meskers and Hector Arzeno — and Nick Simmons for State Senate
GREENWICH, CT – MAY 28, 2024 – The Greenwich Democratic Town Committee (DTC) is proud to announce endorsements for candidates for state offices ahead of the November 5, 2024 election. The proven team includes three incumbents — running for reelection to the state house, Rachel Khanna (149th district), Stephen Meskers (150th district) and Hector Arzeno (151st district).
The Committee also endorses Nick Simmons, who is running for his first term for state senate in the 36th district, encompassing Greenwich, Stamford and New Canaan. Simmons has extensive experience working in both Governor Lamont’s and President Biden’s administrations.
DTC chair Christina Downey relayed the following:
“Our candidates have delivered for Greenwich. This team was responsible for delivering the largest income tax cut in Connecticut history and bringing millions of taxpayer dollars back home to serve Greenwich. This includes over $15 million more than expected for a new Central Middle School, $6.5 million to restart the stalled Glenville traffic improvements, and $750,000 for our local nonprofits. They have a seat at the table in Hartford and that means results.
“Representatives Khanna, Meskers and Arzeno have stood up to their own party in Hartford and successfully fought back against state efforts to override local zoning control, they have passed bills to support our firefighters, our veterans, and cut red tape to make it easier for Connecticut professionals to work in their fields.
“This election is critical. States around the country are passing laws restricting abortion access, weakening gun violence prevention laws, and eating away at voting rights. It is vital to elect legislators who will defend our rights and safety in Connecticut,” said Downey.
“Nick Simmons’ opponent voted against the Reproductive Freedom Defense Act, a bill passed in 2022 to improve access to reproductive healthcare in our state, and Rachel Khanna’s challenger is on the record opposing that law. Nick’s opponent also voted against CT’s landmark gun safety law in 2023. We cannot afford to empower candidates who will undermine our fundamental rights.
“This election is about keeping our taxes low, producing results for our town, protecting our rights and representing our values. This Democratic slate has a proven record on all fronts.”
