Looking for a reason to vote for Democrats this November? Here are five.

  1. We will fix our schools and invest in our children’s education:

We want our students to learn in safe, up-to-date and healthy environments. We want to make our public schools a reason for people to move to Greenwich. Top-notch schools are the foundation for high property values and a vibrant community. We will end the delays and ensure that our schools are built on-time and cost-effectively.

  1. We will support public safety and improve the quality of life in Greenwich:

Requests from our police and fire departments are going unfunded, putting lives and property at risk. We believe our first responders should have the tools they need to protect our town. Greenwich is a great place to live, with a beautiful shoreline and an abundance of parks and playgrounds. But years of myopic leadership are taking their toll on our quality of life. Traffic calming measures have not kept pace with the surge of cars on our roads. Our residents have been asking for more sidewalks, bike paths, and safe crossings for years. Many of our athletic fields are in poor shape and we are losing our natural preserves to overdevelopment. Our Democratic slate brings a vision of how we want our town to look twenty years from now, and a multi-year financial plan to get us there.

  1. We will bring better financial management and end the waste of taxpayer money.

Short sighted fiscal management has deprived our residents of town services that they expect, while wasting millions of dollars needlessly. Delaying projects year after year that you know are unavoidable just ends up costing more, as the price of labor and material increase annually. Refusing to fund maintenance means that residents end up paying more when things break and need to be replaced. We don’t need to raise taxes to correct these problems. We need smarter fiscal planning. We need experienced investment professionals who know how to strategically plan with a 5-year, 10-year or 20 year horizon, and not just focusing on how to fix the latest ceiling collapse.

  1. We are committed to Greenwich, and not to waging any culture war.

Our only goal is to improve living conditions for our residents–all of our residents. We value and embrace our teachers, our librarians, our PTAs, our town volunteer organizations, and all of our residents in their wonderful diversity. We would never use our elected office, nor your tax dollars, to cater to a partisan agenda.

  1. We want to make local government more accessible to you.

Residents have shown their commitment to our town time and time again by showing up to public hearings and patiently waiting for their turn to speak. We think your participation should be easier. We will hold more public hearings on the issues that concern you, we will make them accessible for people who can’t attend in person, and we will make recordings available to you. We value what you have to say.
