Is this what our Founding Fathers wanted?
As we celebrate the Fourth of July, the date that our Founding Fathers explained to the world why they no longer wanted to be ruled by a king, we are months away from deciding whether to vote for a candidate who aspires to be a monarch.
These are some of the actions that Trump, a convicted felon, has actually said he would do:
He’ll slash school budgets, inject religion, and gag universities
“We will bring back God to our schools and our public squares and that will happen very quickly,” Trump said in an interview. He promised to eliminate the Department of Education, cut school funding in half, seize university endowments, and fine them if he doesn’t like what they teach.
He’ll roll back common-sense gun laws
Trump, who’s endorsed by the National Rifle Association, boasted that he will undo gun violence prevention measures instituted by the Biden administration.
He’ll make access to abortions even harder
Trump takes credit for overturning Roe v. Wade, saying the Supreme Court ruling was “only made possible because I delivered everything as promised.” He allowed for the possibility that states could monitor and punish women for getting abortions and that Congress could pass a national abortion ban.
He’ll order mass firings of civil servants
He pledged to immediately reinstate a 2020 order that could replace up to 50,000 professionals with sycophants who pass loyalty tests. (Remember the stooges who changed a hurricane forecast to please him?)
He’ll weaponize the justice department to exact revenge
He pledged to investigate NBCUniversal for treason and remove them from the public airwaves. As for his political rivals, he’s said, “If I happen to be president and I see somebody who’s doing well and beating me very badly, I say, ‘Go down and indict them.’ They’d be out of business. They’d be out of the election.” He’s called for the execution of General Mark Milley, who criticized Trump; and said he would pardon convicted January 6 inmates and go after those involved in his criminal prosecution.
He’ll impose brutal, police-state justice
He would arrest and send all homeless people to tent cities for rehabilitation. He would seek the death penalty for anyone caught selling drugs, and suggested that shoplifters should be shot. He’s also promised to use the National Guard to “restore order” in American cities without permission from a governor.
He’ll make it harder for Americans to vote
Trump has promised to reverse decades of progress expanding voting rights by requiring all voting to take place on one day and in person.
He might even “terminate” the Constitution
Claiming that the 2020 election was a “Massive Fraud,” Trump said it “allows for the termination of all rules, regulations, and articles, even those found in the Constitution.”
If you agree that this isn’t what our Founding Fathers intended, now is the time to fight back!
Just this past Monday, on a split vote, our Supreme Court decided that the president is almost entirely immune from prosecution, a decision that the dissenting justices decried makes its occupant “a king above the law.” Even our sanctuary laws in CT won’t stand up to a Trump presidency.
So as you throw your hot dogs on the grill this weekend, ask yourself whether the Founding Fathers created this nation to let it fall into the hands of another king. Only you can prevent it, by voting Democratic in November. Join us! Donate! Vote!
